Alan Brochstein, Founder of New Cannabis Ventures and the 420 Investor

Alan Brochstein, one of the most influential reporters/analysts covering the cannabis sector as the owner of New Cannabis Ventures and the 420 Investor.

Alan has played the role as the voice of the retail investors for his entire career.  He watches nearly all the public cannabis companies, reads every single filing, talks with management.  Plainly said, Alan knows as much if not more about the public cannabis markets than anyone around. He can be controversial, and has been known to speak his mind, bluntly, directly, and with no fear of pissing people off. Love him or not, everyone respects Alan Brochstein.

Our hosts will discuss with Alan the sad state of cannabis stocks and when may finally hit the bottom, his thoughts on different state regulations and their impact on operators, whether he believes 2020 will finally be the year the industry gets some relief from the federal government and what positive changes for industry he’s looking for in 2020.

Don’t sit back, lean forward and enjoy!

Alan Brochstein, Founder of New Cannabis Ventures

Alan Brochstein, CFA, was the first investment professional to devote himself to sharing his observations about the cannabis industry from an investor’s perspective publicly. He runs 420 Investor, a subscription-based due diligence platform for investors interested in the publicly-traded cannabis stocks and is also the founder of New Cannabis Ventures, a content aggregation site focused on investors and entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry. Alan has worked in the securities industry since 1986, primarily with the responsibility for managing investments in institutional environments until he founded AB Analytical Services in 2007 in order to provide independent research and consulting to registered investment advisors.

Alan launched www.420Investor.com in late 2013 as the premier source of information for “Green Rush” investors seeking to capitalize on the proliferation of legalized medical and recreational cannabis. In March 2014, Alan, who is a member of the National Cannabis Industry Association, began to focus solely on the cannabis sector. He launched www.NewCannabisVentures.com in late 2015.

Kevin Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Acreage Holdings

On this historic day, The Green Rush is publishing its 100th episode! After launching the podcast two years ago, Anne, Lewis and Nick want to express their gratitude to all of our dedicated listeners who have stuck with us!

To treat our audience, we are celebrating with a very special guest, Kevin Murphy, CEO of Acreage Holdings. We think an interview with one of the top CEOs in the cannabis space is the perfect treat as we set forth towards our next 100 episodes.

Kevin Murphy is arguably one of the most powerful leaders in cannabis having built Acreage Holdings into one of the leading MSOs driving the U.S. cannabis industry forward. We sent Lewis to the Acreage offices in NYC to chat all things Acreage including the acquisition arrangement the Company announced earlier in 2019 with Canopy Growth and where that deal stands today. We also discuss how Acreage is using its political might to drive reform to cannabis banking regulations, the Company’s “house of brands” strategy and how the SAFE Banking Act could transform the industry.

Don’t sit back, lean forward and enjoy!

Kevin Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Acreage Holdings

Prior to his role at Acreage Holdings, Kevin was most recently a Founding Member and Managing Partner of Tandem Global Partners, a boutique investment firm focused on the emerging markets. Mitch Baruchowitz, Managing Partner of Merida Capital Partners

Mitch Baruchowitz, Founder and Managing Partner of Merida Capital Partners, sits down with the Green Rush team to discuss how private equity and venture capital are driving the rapid development of the cannabis industry.

Merida Capital has a major presence in the industry as one of the leading (if not THE leading) private equity investment firms in the cannabis space. Since 2012, Mitch and his team have been on the ground floor, investing early in a number of well-known companies in cannabis. Mitch has watched the industry progress and evolve throughout the years, providing him with a unique perspective of the space.

Lewis and Anne spoke with Mitch about what he looks for when identifying a potential investment opportunity, why he thinks there will be significant change in how major MSOs conduct business over the next year and who he thinks may follow Bruce Linton as the next CEO to get the axe.

Don’t sit back, lean forward and enjoy!

Mitch Baruchowitz, Managing Partner of Merida Capital Partners

Mr. Baruchowitz has nine years of experience in the legal cannabis industry and is considered a national expert in the diverse licensing regimes governing each state. His cannabis career began in assisting Colorado-based legal cultivators to structure state compliant capital transactions and analyzing the legal cannabis market in order to develop an optimal business strategy for their operations. After several years of work with Colorado companies, he co-founded Theraplant, LLC  where he architected the highest scoring application in Connecticut’s highly selective licensing process. In 2014, he cofounded LeafLine Labs, LLC, which was one of only two Minnesota companies to win a license to cultivate and dispense cannabis in extracted form. Mr. Baruchowitz is also a founder of Maryland-based Grow West MD, one of 15 companies selected for a cultivation and dispensing license. He has also founded a Pennsylvania-based cultivator that is in the pre-operational licensing stage.

Tahira Rehmatullah is the Most Powerful Woman in Pot

This week on the Green Rush Podcast, Lewis and Anne chat with one of the most influential executives in cannabis that you likely haven’t heard of, Tahira Rehmatullah, CFO of MTech Acquisition Corporation. Tahira has an expansive cannabis background – in addition to her work with MTech, she is also Managing Director of Hypur Ventures and a Director of Dope Media. Prior to her current roles, Tahira served as General Manager of Marley Natural, where she was responsible for the brand’s launch and managing day-to-day operations of the company.

In this week’s episode, the Green Rush team and Tahira discuss social justice issues within the cannabis space, how policy has failed to address these concerns, and how she feels obligated to pay it forward to newcomers and minorities joining the industry. Tahira also touches on Canada’s recent decision to federally legalize cannabis and the implications this decision will have on US markets, and the recent trends regarding M&A activity in the industry.

Fortune Magazine has called Tahira Rehmatullah is one of the top 5 most powerful women in pot and Business Insider has deemed her one of the rising stars of the marijuana investment scene. Tahira is the Chief Financial Officer at a company called MTech Acquisition Corporation, which is one of the few publicly traded cannabis focused companies on the NASDAQ. Under her leadership, they completed a $50M IPO earlier this year and the company’s focus will be on acquiring an ancillary cannabis business, with a particular sector focus that includes compliance, business intelligence, brand development and media.
