Christina DeGiovanni, Founder and Publisher of Emerald Magazine and Emerald Media Group is this week’s guest on The Green Rush!

Thrust into the cannabis industry while in college, Christina originally launched her cannabis lifestyle magazine while living in the Emerald Triangle in 2012. Since then, Christina has fought her way up the cannabis media food chain, expanding her media empire across the country, reaching thousands of readers from the Valley in LA to the streets of New York City.

In their conversation, Lewis and Anne chat with Christina about what makes for a compelling cannabis news story, the role of the media in shaping the public narrative around cannabis and her thoughts about what excites her about the industry today and in the future.

About Christina DeGiovanni, Founder and Publisher of Emerald Magazine

Christina DeGiovanni is the founder and CEO of the Emerald ​ Media Group​.  In 2012, Christina found herself a victim of Federal Asset Forfeiture when her live-in boyfriend, a cannabis grower, was caught with bulk currency on an Amtrak train by the Reno Drug Task Force. After law enforcement was notified in Humboldt County, Christina fought the system for nine months until her charges were dropped and she was able to reclaim her seized assets. Following her experience of civil injustice, Christina launched a print publication called the ​Emerald Magazine ​ during her last semester at Humboldt State University, where she graduated with a degree in Journalism. Christina created ​Emerald Magazine as a resource to demystify cannabis for non-traditional, new medicinal users like her mother. The Media Group perfectly positions itself to educate those entering the new market.

Justin Zaremba is the lead report for NJ Cannabis Insider from NJ Advance Media, a trade publication dedicated to covering the New Jersey cannabis industry, is this week’s guest on The Green Rush. As part of the NJ Advance Media family, Justin’s work has been published across a number of outlets  including NJ.com and The Star-Ledger, New Jersey’s largest daily newspaper.
